I'm going back to the Grand Rapids office to meet with my boss for my performance review. I'm nervous. Really Nervous. I always get that way and it's always better than I expect. Also, I assume if they wanted to fire me they'd most likely come to me versus me coming to them, right? Anyway, win or lose, I've also made plans to drive out to Kalamazoo after work tomorrow for D&W's Food and Wine Festival with my friend/coworker Ron and his wife Lisa and my other friend/coworker Mary.
It should be a blast and I'm looking forward to it. This is about the only type of "vacation" that I'll get from the boys until the next business trip. So it's a big deal folks. I've found a little Blue's Bar called the Funky Basement that I want to check out after the festival...I have the best of intentions but I usually end up getting sooo sleepy so early when I Don't have my kids, that I never do all the partying I intend to do.
I want to visit the Warner Vineyards Saturday morning and tour their vineyards and champagne caves. They are Michigan's 2nd oldest winery and are right on the Paw Paw River. Michigan is Wine Country! A lot of folks are sleep on Michigan Wines because it's a Bear to get out of the state. But the midwest soil gives every varietal an fresher more pronounced taste....like sipping wine out of a Riedel as opposed to the dime store wine glass ....very noticeable difference.
Anyway, I'm moblogging LIVE from the Amtrak train that I Barely Made. It's always that way. I knew the train was leaving at 5:20 but I had to stop by Lawrence's Fisheries on Canal to grab a pound of shrimp before I went to Union Station. I called ahead and told them I would be there in 12 minutes (this was at 4:38) and when I got there it was ready. Yeah Lawrences!
So I parked my car at about 5:04, went through the underground walkway which was Penn-Station-Crowded being the middle of rush hour and all, and I found (and Thank God for) the QuikTicket kiosk and there was Not a Line! Whoo Hoo! I printed my ticket at 5:13 and ran down the platform like Larenz Tate did in Love Jones (hmmm.....wonder if it was the same one?) and made it to my train by 5:18...huffin and puffin! When I got on, there was this family of 1000 trying to get seats all together, lucky for me there was a single seat next to a college girl (I assume) and now I'm about to settle down with Eric Jerome Dickey's Sleeping With Strangers and dig into my Bag o' SCrimps and enjoy the ride....
PS If Mr Right is on the 370 Pier Marquette train to GR I'm in seat 50 in the car next to the snack car. You'll recognize me by the hot sauce on my fingers....
